The Carlson BRx7 Rover Set combines a professional multi-constellation GNSS receiver with a rugged Carlson field controller, surveying software and essential pole accessories. It is designed for surveyors, construction teams, civil engineers, GIS professionals and other users who need reliable centimetre-level positioning for measuring, setting out and recording site information.
Used as a network rover, the BRx7 connects to an NTRIP or VRS correction service through its integrated cellular modem or through the internet connection of the field controller. It can also receive corrections over UHF radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or a serial connection, making it suitable for organisations working with different correction sources and existing survey equipment.
Measure efficiently without constantly levelling the pole
Tilt compensation allows the pole to be held at an angle while the receiver calculates the position of the pole tip. In practical fieldwork, this makes it easier to measure building corners, kerbs, utility points, fence lines and locations close to machinery or vegetation. Operators spend less time watching the pole bubble and can collect points more comfortably on slopes, excavations and uneven construction sites.
The system is specified to correct point coordinates to within 2 cm when the pole is tilted by up to 30 degrees under suitable GNSS and RTK conditions. At greater angles, accuracy may decrease, so normal survey checks and appropriate field procedures remain important.
Multi-frequency tracking for demanding GNSS environments
The BRx7 uses more than 800 channels to track multiple frequencies from GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS and IRNSS. Access to several constellations gives the receiver more satellite observations to work with, which can improve positioning availability when part of the sky is obstructed by buildings, trees or site equipment.
Carlson’s Athena RTK engine processes correction data for fast fixed positioning, while SureFix technology provides information about the quality of the RTK solution. This helps field crews assess whether a measured point is supported by a reliable fixed result rather than relying only on a displayed coordinate.
Suitable for surveying construction and GIS workflows
Land surveyors can use the rover for topographic surveys, boundary work, control checks and as-built measurements. Construction teams can use it to set out points, lines, foundations, utilities and earthworks directly from design data. Civil engineering and infrastructure crews can record assets, inspect completed work and verify positions throughout a project.
For GIS users, the system provides accurate coordinates for utilities, roads, drainage features, environmental assets and other mapped objects. Drone teams may also use compatible Carlson correction workflows to support RTK operations, although the required configuration, communication service and software should be checked for the intended UAV setup.
Carlson field software and RT4 controller
The rover set is supplied with a Carlson RT4 data collector and Carlson SurvPC or SurvCE field software, depending on the selected configuration. The software provides the tools needed to configure the receiver, monitor GNSS status, collect coded points, perform stakeout and manage survey files in the field.
Bluetooth communication keeps the pole free from unnecessary cables, while the receiver’s built-in WebUI allows authorised users to view status information, adjust settings, download data and manage firmware through a Wi-Fi-capable device. Static GNSS data can also be recorded for workflows that require post-processing.
Built for regular outdoor use
The BRx7 has an IP67-rated enclosure designed for dusty, wet and demanding field conditions. Its published operating range of -40°C to +65°C supports work across varied climates, while the housing is designed to withstand common knocks and pole drops encountered during site use.
Two removable batteries support up to 12 hours of operation and can be hot-swapped, allowing a charged battery to be inserted without interrupting the working session. This is useful for long survey days and remote projects where access to mains power is limited.
Rover set contents and configuration
The standard package combines the Carlson BRx7 receiver with a Carlson RT4 data collector, SurvPC or SurvCE field software, a telescopic survey pole and a controller bracket.
