Flexible RTK GNSS receiver for professional fieldwork

The Carlson BRx7 RTK GNSS receiver is designed for surveyors, construction professionals, civil engineers, GIS crews and other users who require accurate positioning in the field. It combines multi-constellation GNSS tracking, an integrated tilt sensor and several correction-data options in a rugged receiver that can be used as a network rover, local base or conventional radio rover.

With support for more than 800 GNSS channels, the BRx7 tracks multiple frequencies from GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS and IRNSS. Having access to several satellite systems gives the receiver more observations to calculate a position from, which can improve measurement availability where buildings, machinery, trees or terrain partially obstruct the sky.

Measure points without holding the pole perfectly vertical

The integrated tilt-compensation system calculates the position of the survey pole tip while the pole is leaning. In everyday fieldwork, this helps users reach points beside walls, beneath overhangs, along kerbs, close to fences and around parked machinery without repeatedly stopping to centre the pole bubble.

Tilt compensation can also make point collection more comfortable on slopes, excavations and uneven ground. The published specification is 2 cm within a 30-degree tilt and 5 cm within a 60-degree tilt when using a 1.8 m pole under suitable positioning conditions. Normal survey checks should still be used for control points and other measurements where the highest possible accuracy is required.

An integrated LTE modem allows the BRx7 to receive corrections from compatible NTRIP and VRS services without relying entirely on an external modem. Where mobile coverage is unavailable or a private correction source is preferred, the receiver can use its integrated UHF radio in supported 410–470 MHz or 902.4–928 MHz configurations.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and serial connectivity provide additional ways to connect a field controller, configure the receiver and transfer positioning data. Support for common RTCM formats, including RTCM 3.2 MSM, helps the BRx7 work with a range of correction networks, bases and professional surveying systems.

Practical data logging and receiver management

The receiver includes 8 GB of internal storage and supports a MicroSD card of up to 32 GB. Static GNSS observations, NMEA messages and raw data can be recorded for later download or post-processing. Logging intervals can be selected from 1, 2, 4, 5 and 10 Hz, with higher-rate options available for suitable applications.

The built-in WebUI can be opened from a Wi-Fi-capable phone, tablet or computer. It provides access to receiver status, settings, data downloads, radio configuration and firmware management. This gives equipment managers and experienced operators a practical way to configure the BRx7 without requiring a separate desktop utility for every adjustment.

Built for demanding outdoor conditions

The Carlson BRx7 has an IP67-rated enclosure that protects it against dust and temporary water immersion. Its specified operating temperature range is -30°C to +65°C, making it suitable for routine surveying and construction work across a wide range of climates.

The receiver is designed to withstand a two-metre pole drop onto concrete and a one-metre free drop onto a hardwood floor. At approximately 1.3 kg with a battery installed, it remains manageable on a survey pole while providing the connectivity and battery capacity needed for full working days.

Dual removable batteries for continuous work

The dual-battery design allows batteries to be removed and replaced individually. A crew can exchange a depleted battery while the second battery continues powering the receiver, reducing interruptions during long surveys, remote jobs and time-sensitive setting-out work.

Published working time is more than nine hours in rover UHF mode. Actual runtime varies with radio use, modem activity, temperature, battery condition and receiver configuration.
