How to Subdivide a Measured Area With EFIX eField

This tutorial demonstrates how to use the Area subdivision tool in eField. The video shows how to open an existing measured area, create a parallel division line, enter the required subdivision size and save or stake out the calculated split point.

  7. Enter the required area value or percentage.
  8. Calculate the split point.
  9. Save the point or start staking it out.

What you need #

The video shows:

  • An Android mobile device running eField
  • A GNSS receiver and survey pole
  • A previously measured or available closed area

Step 1: Open the area survey screen #

Open eField on the mobile device.

From the Survey menu, tap Area survey.

The area survey screen displays the available measurement options.

Step 2: Select the measurement type #

Tap the measurement-type field near the top of the screen.

A menu appears with the following visible options:

  • 2D length
  • 3D length

The video selects 2D length.

Step 3: Complete the area measurement #

Measure the boundary points of the area until the closed shape is complete.

The finished measurement appears as an orange polygon with numbered points. The application displays the calculated 2D area and perimeter.

In the example, the visible total area is approximately 389.987 square meters.

Step 4: Return to the main menu #

After finishing the measurement, tap the back arrow.

The application returns to the main eField menu.

Step 5: Open the Tools menu #

Tap Tools at the top of the main menu.

The Tools page contains several functions, including Area subdivision.

Tap Area subdivision.

Step 6: Select the closed polyline #

The demo-CAD view opens and displays the measured polygon.

Tap the closed orange polyline to select it.

A message at the bottom asks you to select a closed polyline. Once selected, the total area is displayed.

Step 7: Start the subdivision tool #

Tap the area-subdivision icon on the left side of the screen.

The subdivision controls open at the bottom.

Step 8: Choose a subdivision method #

Open the Method menu.

Three methods are visible:

  • Parallel by 2 points
  • Perpendicular by 2 points
  • Hinge point

The video selects Parallel by 2 points.

This method creates a subdivision line parallel to the direction defined by two selected points.

Step 9: Select two direction points #

Tap two points on the drawing to define the direction of the division line.

After the points are selected, a light-blue guide line appears across the polygon.

The software then calculates a preliminary subdivision position automatically.

Step 10: Choose the area input type #

Under Area type, select how the required subdivision size should be entered.

The visible options are:

  • Value
  • % Percentage

The video uses Value.

The panel also displays:

  • Total area: 389.987 Sq. Meters
  • Area (Value)
  • Area (%)

Step 11: Enter the required subdivision area #

Tap the Area (Value) field.

The video changes the value to 100 Sq. Meters.

The corresponding percentage is automatically updated to approximately 25.642%.

Tap the keyboard confirmation button to close the numeric keypad.

Step 12: Calculate the split point #

Tap Calculate.

A Calculating… message appears.

eField moves the subdivision line to the correct position and calculates the coordinates of the split point.

The resulting subdivision is shown on the polygon. One section is labelled at approximately 100.001 square meters, while the remaining section is approximately 289.986 square meters.

The displayed coordinates of the calculated split point are:

  • North (N): 3456211.411 m
  • East (E): 898609.278 m

These coordinate values are taken from the example shown in the video.

Step 13: Save the calculated point #

Tap New to add the split point to the point library.

The Add point window opens.

The automatically generated name shown in the video is:

area_100.001_1

The window also contains fields for:

  • Code
  • North
  • East
  • Elevation
  • Description

Tap OK to save the point.

Step 14: Stake out the split point #

Instead of saving the point first, you can tap Stakeout at the bottom of the screen.

This opens the stakeout workflow so the calculated subdivision point can be located in the field using the connected GNSS equipment.

Result #

The original closed area is divided according to the entered target size.

In the video, eField calculates a subdivision of approximately 100 square meters, displays the split line and point, and provides the point coordinates. The calculated point can then be saved to the point library or used directly for stakeout.
